ADVICE FOR GETTING the most OUT of yla EXPERIENCE
1. Be committed to the course. Leaders develop effective time management skills. This means attending all classes on time and participating in all activities. There should not be more than 1-2 absences during this six-week course.
2. Get to know your classmates. Leadership and communication is about relating and understanding a broad range of people. Help create a positive learning community. You can learn as much from your classmates as from other aspects of the course. The class can become a support network for young leaders interested in the Asian American community.
3. Complete readings and assignments on time. The readings provide a common basis for small group dialog in class. Plan to spend at least one hour reading each day. Assignments have been carefully designed to improve understanding and skills.
4. Access the APALI Portal at apaliyla.weebly.com to get class information, announcements class materials, links, videos , etc.
5. Leaders are not afraid to express their opinions. Develop self-confidence through active participation in class discussions. Use our friendly classroom community to gain better self-understanding, test opinions, articulate ideas, and welcome feedback.
